Beyond the Recipes: An Unforgettable Announcement – Our Family is Growing!

If you’ve landed here today hoping for a new culinary creation, perhaps a delicious recipe for a delightful bun fresh from the oven, I apologize if this post takes an unexpected turn! While I could certainly share the ‘recipe’ for how this particular bun was made, I suspect that might be a touch too personal for a food blog. Instead, I’m overjoyed to finally share the news that has been bubbling under the surface: We’re expecting! That’s right, the “food baby” jokes have officially retired; this time, it’s the real deal!
Our Little ‘Bun in the Oven’ is Arriving Soon!
Baby Lassance is joyfully anticipated in early July, and our hearts are overflowing with happiness and immense excitement for this new chapter. However, I won’t sugarcoat it; the past two and a half months have been incredibly challenging. After the initial thrill of discovering I was pregnant, I enjoyed a glorious two to three weeks of feeling fantastic and genuinely excited. I distinctly remember confidently telling someone that I hadn’t experienced any nausea at all, secretly wondering if my acupuncturist’s theory about sickness indicating a healthy baby was just an old wives’ tale. Oh, how quickly things can change!
Approximately two weeks later, the dreaded nausea arrived with the force of a wrecking ball. I recall countless days spent sprawled on the couch, feeling utterly miserable, convinced that this debilitating feeling couldn’t possibly last until the fabled 12-week mark. As it turns out, it didn’t just last until week 12; it stubbornly clung on until around week 16! It’s only been in the past week that I’ve finally started to feel a significant improvement, though I’m still patiently waiting to feel 100% like my old self.
Navigating the First Trimester: A Food Blogger’s Unexpected Challenge
Experiencing waves of intense nausea and vomiting multiple times a day, often triggered by the mere sight or smell of certain foods, has been anything but conducive to running a vibrant food blog. My diet has been remarkably uninspiring lately, consisting primarily of plain rice cakes, yogurt, and bananas. I can assure you, no one is clamoring for recipes featuring those three ingredients exclusively! This explains my noticeable absence and quietness, not just here on the blog, but also in engaging with the many wonderful food blogs I love and follow. It’s been a period of essential self-preservation and focusing on just getting through each day. But now, with a renewed sense of energy and a significant decrease in nausea, I’m eager to get back into the kitchen, create, and share with all of you!
Our Heartfelt Journey to Conception: More Than Just Trying
While I didn’t want to make this post overly lengthy, I felt it was important to share a deeper insight into our unique pregnancy journey. When you’re actively trying to conceive, it often feels like everyone around you is getting pregnant with seemingly effortless ease, often on their first attempt. Please don’t misunderstand; I am genuinely thrilled and endlessly happy for all my friends who are pregnant or new mothers. However, when your own path isn’t as straightforward, it can feel incredibly discouraging, isolating, and at times, deeply unfair. This personal experience is one I believe many can relate to, offering a glimpse behind the curated announcements we often see.
We began our journey to try for a baby in mid-May. A small part of me harbored the hopeful thought that we might be one of those lucky couples for whom it happens right away. I knew a few people who had shared such stories, even though I also heard that it’s statistically quite rare. Well, luck wasn’t entirely on our side in that regard. It didn’t happen on the first try, nor the second, third, fourth, or even the fifth. I am acutely aware that for many, the path to conception can take much longer than six months, and some endure struggles far greater than ours. Yet, for us, each passing month felt like an eternity, a profound and sometimes agonizing waiting game.
The Emotional Rollercoaster of Waiting
As the months turned into what felt like an endless cycle of hope and disappointment, I started to convince myself that something was fundamentally wrong with either me or my husband. The emotional toll was significant, leading to increasing discouragement and moments of genuine sadness. My husband, bless his heart, was a constant source of calm and reassurance. I’m pretty sure he was secretly relieved each month when it didn’t happen, a small silver lining to delay the monumental change ahead! His unwavering optimism that it “would happen soon” was a much-needed anchor during my more dramatic phases, where I’d convinced myself it was simply never going to happen. By the sixth month of trying, I was utterly exhausted by the sight of negative tests. I made a firm resolution: no more tests until my period was at least a few days late.
The Unforgettable Moment: A Faint Line and a Digital Confirmation
Fate, however, had other plans. It was a Saturday, about four or five days before my period was due, and I had a strong craving for a glass of wine that evening. I rationalized taking a test that morning with a simple goal: to enjoy my wine guilt-free later that day. I woke up early, took the test, and my immediate instinct was to toss it away without looking. I simply couldn’t bear to see another soul-crushing negative result. But curiosity, or perhaps a flicker of desperate hope, compelled me to look. And there it was: an incredibly faint line. I had never seen a line before, no matter how faint, but it was so faint I questioned if my eyes were playing tricks on me. Was it real? Could it be?
Overwhelmed with a mix of disbelief and burgeoning hope, I practically flew out the door to the nearest store to buy a digital test, desperate for a definitive answer. They say it’s best to use the first urine of the day for accuracy, so I debated whether to wait until Sunday morning. But the anticipation, coupled with that persistent desire for a celebratory (or commiseratory) glass of wine, wouldn’t allow me to wait. I took the digital test right there and then, and sure enough, in big, unmistakable letters, the screen proudly displayed: Pregnant!
That glass of wine, as you might imagine, remained unopened. And now, here we are, just twelve weeks later from that monumental moment, with approximately five and a half months to go until we meet our little one! The journey has been a whirlwind of emotions, physical challenges, and profound gratitude.

If you’ve read through our entire story, from the challenging first trimester to our heartfelt journey to conception, thank you so much for your understanding and support. This new chapter is incredibly exciting, and while things might be a little different around here for a while, rest assured, the delicious recipes will continue!
I’ll be back on Thursday with a brand new recipe that I’m thrilled to share. Until then, thank you for being a part of our community!
